Barclays seeks replacement for marketing head

Barclays is hunting for a new marketing director for its Business Banking arm following the promotion of George Bothwell to the new role of centres of excellence director.

Bothwell's position has been created to streamline the operation of Barclays' marketing and place customers at the centre of the bank's thinking and actions.

Barclays' 'centres of excellence' was created by group marketing director Simon Gulliford, whom Bothwell reports to, in January last year (Marketing, January 24, 2002). It was set up to create greater cohesion across all Barclays business, including The Woolwich and Barclaycard, with all marketing activity requiring the team's stamp of approval.

The team, which was restructured last year (December 12), comprises brand director Caitlin Thomas, who is responsible for overseeing advertising, including the TV ads through BBH starring Samuel L Jackson; head of customer insight Sara Deeks; and acting head of marketing operations Liz Sinclair.

Bothwell joined Barclays as business banking marketing director in May 2002.
