Barclays continues its fluent in finance ads with new faces

Barclays is launching its latest "fluent in finance" spots, starring the actors Donald Sutherland and Gary Oldman.

The pair replace Samuel L Jackson in the series that focuses on Barclays' financial expertise.

The campaign by Bartle Bogle Hegarty tells the story of a wise man, played by Sutherland, who grows and nurtures money trees.

He tries to convince a cynical man, played by Oldman, that young saplings can grow into vast forests of money trees as a result of being cared for by the right people, tools and advice.

The second spot, "helping hand", dramatises Barclays' specialist knowledge of business banking by showing that different species of money need expert help to ensure they grow.

Finally, in "tools", Sutherland explains to Oldman the need for the right range of equipment to make a tree grow to its full potential.

The ads continue to use the strapline: "Fluent in finance." They were written and art directed by Marc Hatfield and Pete Bradly. The director was Dante Ariola through MJZ.

Media planning and buying is through Starcom Motive.

The ads target 25- to 54-year-olds and will run during programmes such as Coronation Street, Big Brother and Friends. An outdoor poster and press campaign will support the TV work.

Sara Deeks, Barclays' brand strategy director, said: "We are delighted that we have managed to secure the services of two of Hollywood's best actors."
