Bank of Scotland backs newly launched Data8 firm

LONDON – A newly launched Merseyside data firm Data8 has been backed by the Bank of Scotland as it looks to break into the market updating directory databases.

Data8 specialises in updating the telephone numbers and other contact details held on UK-based databases. The service will help eliminate some of the £95m the DMA estimates is waste each year on mailers sent to gone-aways.

According to Data8 managing director Antony Allen, there are more than 60,000 changes to the BT Directory database each day alone.

"You have to keep data up-to-date to keep it effective. However, in order to do this, Data8 needs considerable IT expertise. We needed to secure funding to help develop the business's IT infrastructure and we were pleased when Bank of Scotland Corporate came on board," he said.

The Bank of Scotland has loaned the start-up firm £150,000 and did so after seeing the potential in Data8's business plan and the expertise of Allen.

Allen is a former general manager of Datacare.
