Republican politician Marilyn O' Grady is using a 30-second commercial to persuade people stop buying Springsteen's music because of his participation in the Vote for Change tour.
REM, the Dixie Chicks, Pearl Jam, Bright Eyes and Springsteen have been lined up to play the week-long concert tour in support of John F Kerry, the Democratic candidate for president.
O'Grady says in her commercial: "He thinks making millions with a song and dance routine allows him to tell you how to vote. Here's my vote: boycott the boss. If you don't buy his politics, don't buy his music."
Springsteen's representatives have declined to comment on the ad. However, earlier this month the musician, known as the Boss, said: "I felt like I couldn't have written the music I've written and been on stage singing about the things I've sung for the last 25 years and not take part in this particular election."
The Vote for Change tour kicks off on October 1 in Pennsylvania. It will appear in swing states, including Ohio, Wisconsin and Florida and is being sponsored by anti-George Bush groups such as MoveOn.org and America Coming Together.
Springsteen had run-ins with the Republicans in the past when various rightwingers -- including Ronald Reagan and Bob Dole -- tried to use his "Born in the USA" song from the the 1984 album of the same name.
The song is about the welfare cuts and high unemployment of the 80s and tells the story of a struggling Vietnam veteran who finds it hard to get a break in the land of the free.
