The Bolton-based firm will act as a consultancy to advise clients on how
to make the most of their advertising and marketing budgets.
Baker said it would not be involved directly in media planning and
buying, but would take a more strategic 'brand-focused' approach.
"Brandpower will be working at a very senior level with clients and will
not be afraid of utilising the talents of specialists from various
fields to assist us in delivering quality solutions. The emphasis will
be very much on service, thoroughness and ideas", said Baker.
Baker has recruited Mike Williams, who left his job as managing partner
of Mediavest Manchester in August, as a director of the firm to work on
a project basis.
Baker started his career in 1981 at Piccadilly Radio, where he stayed
for two years, before accepting a job as regional sales manager for the
launch of Signal Radio in Stoke. Baker left the world of radio in 1986
to join Mirror Group in Manchester and he was then headhunted to work at
HTV three years later.
Sales for HTV were later absorbed into TSMS and Baker took the top sales
job outside of London, before leaving in 1998 to take up the position at
Precise Communications.
While at Precise part of Baker's role was putting together
advertiser-funded programmes and he was involved in The Millionaire Show
on Granada TV, which was sponsored by The Co-op.
Precise Communications merged with Noel Edmonds' Unique Communications
Group in June this year.
Edmonds has become chairman of the new company, travelling by helicopter
from his Devon home to Precise's Salford Quays office.
