The contract is estimated to be worth £500 million in advertising revenue. It comprises 1,700 poster sites at Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, Glasgow, Southampton, Aberdeen and Edinburgh airports. The value of the deal is expected to increase when Heathrow's fifth terminal opens in 2008.
The business has been put up for statutory review, although BAA's media department is planning to award the contract for up to ten years rather than the usual five. JCDecaux last defended the account in 1999 and gained a two-year extension.
JCDecaux bought Sky Sites - which had held the BAA concession since 1989 - in 1999, shortly before the contract was renewed.
A shortlist of four or five contractors will be invited to pitch and a decision is expected by the new year. The winner will take over the business in April 2007.
