BAA bans Virgin Atlantic posters from BA lounges

The British Airports Authority (BAA) has denied Virgin permission to run its Heathrow poster campaign, which attacks British Airways' decision to retire Concorde.

BAA has told Virgin it cannot put posters outside BA's lounge using the strapline 'BA's talking scrap' (Marketing, July 31). Virgin is annoyed with the decision as BA is running a campaign mocking Virgin's flatbeds near the Virgin check-in desks at the airport.

"BAA is being over-cautious and taking a jobs-worth attitude to this campaign," said a Virgin Atlantic spokeswoman.

Virgin has instead adorned a lorry with the poster, created by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, which it has driven around Heathrow.

The row comes at a bad time for BA, which has offered passengers affected by strike action last month £80 flight vouchers. Virgin Atlantic has said consumers can redeem the BA vouchers with it instead - and receive a further £20 off the normal flight price.

Virgin Atlantic chairman Sir Richard Branson said: "For BA passengers stranded by the recent industrial action who are thinking twice about flying with BA again, Virgin Atlantic will accept BA's £80 voucher."
