Karen Earl will manage the sponsorship and implement the PR programme supporting the corporate sponsorship of Caffari's attempt to sail solo non-stop around the world.
Aviva, which owns the Norwich Union, Commercial Union and Delta Lloyd brands among others, has chosen to sponsor the challenge as part of its "Forward thinking" marketing campaign, which celebrates the benefits of thinking and behaving in a progressive way. The savings, insurance and investment company believes Caffari and The Aviva Challenge epitomise this.
Stephen Pain, Aviva group corporate affairs director, said: "We chose to appoint Karen Earl firstly because of its extensive sailing and adventure sponsorship experience and also because we knew that it would be able to hit the ground running."
Throughout The Aviva Challenge, Caffari will face some of the toughest physical challenges in the sport, including punishing 40-foot waves, extremes of temperature and severe lack of sleep.
She is being supported in her bid by The Challenge Business, and her shore team is headed up by Sir Chay Blyth who, 34 years ago, was the first man to sail the around the world east to west.
She begins her bid with a departure from Portsmouth on November 20.
