Austrian Koblinger to head DM jury at Cannes 2005

LONDON - Austrian Fred Koblinger, chief executive of BBDO Holding and managing director of Palla Koblinger Proximity, is to head the direct marketing jury at the 2005 Cannes International Advertising Festival.

Koblinger has been working in the direct marketing industry since 1987, when he set up Ogilvy & Mather Direct in Austria.

He started his own agency, Palla Koblinger and Partners in 1991, and it became one of the founding agencies of the Proximity Worldwide network. His agency has won four Lions Direct trophies in Cannes.

He said: "Cannes is always a thrilling place for me -- whether it be hunting for a Lion, like so many others, or fighting for creative excellence on a jury."

He said he promised to motivate the rest of the jury to make sure that only the most outstanding creative DM campaigns were awarded with Lions at the festival.

Koblinger is described as a pioneer in direct marketing in Austria, having spoken at more than 40 conferences around the world and being inducted into the Austrian Direct Marketing Association's Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Terry Savage, CEO of the festival, said: "An international player in the DM industry, Fred's pursuit for creative excellence and past Cannes judging experience are ideal assets to take on the demanding role of jury president for the 2005 festival."
