Audi shifts to 'simpler' logo

Volkswagen-owned car marque Audi is changing its logo for the first time since 1990, to emphasise the brand's focus on design.

The logo will continue to feature the longstanding four-ring motif, albeit with a slightly more 3D treatment. However, the traditional red 'Audi' lettering will now be displayed in a less elaborate font.

According to Audi, marketing collateral will make greater use of simple light or white spaces and images to 'complement the understated style for which the Audi range is famous'.

Design agency MetaDesign Berlin created the logo, while Mutabor Design Hamburg has devised wider guidelines for marketing materials. Dutch typographer Paul van der Laan developed the typeface.
