Auckland steps down from <br>Regional Independent Media

LONDON - Steve Auckland, group assistant managing director of Regional Independent Media, which owns the Yorkshire Post, is to leave the company after more than 20 years.

Auckland, who stepped down in April after five-and-a-half years as managing director of Yorkshire Post Newspapers, has recently completed the first part of an MBA at Schiller International University, Switzerland.

He has been a main board director of RIM since its formation by a venture capital-backed management buy-in in February 1998. He was previously Yorkshire area director for the titles under previous owner United Provincial Newspapers, part of the then United News & Media.

Chris Oakley, the chief executive of RIM, said, "Steve has been part of the rapid growth of RIM. We thank him for the contribution he has made and wish him well for the future."

Auckland said, "The MBA course helped me to refocus my business goals. After more than five years in charge of the newspaper centres in Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Post newspaper in particular I felt it was time for a change."
