The arrangement will see 39 different venues including the Edinburgh Playhouse, and the capital's The Lyceum and Apollo Victoria Theatre join ATG's portfolio, creating a combined business valued at some £150m.

Former BBC director general Greg Dyke is to take up the role of executive chairman at the newly expanded group.

"Live Nation Theatres is a very successful company, with first class staff and significant customer loyalty," said ATG joint CEO and creative director Howard Panter.

"It is also blessed with some of the world's best producers and productions. Our aim is to help maintain the shows and theatres as vibrant successes. It will be a privilege to operate this additional group of historic venues."
