- Associated Newspapers has announced the first senior management shake-up since Jonathan Harmsworth became chairman of the group following the death of his father, Viscount Rothermere, in September.

Kevin Beatty, currently managing director of the Mail on Sunday, replaces Harmsworth as managing director of the Evening Standard. Mike Ironside becomes managing director of the Mail on Sunday, moving over from the Daily Mail where he was advertising director. John Teal steps into Ironside's vacant position moving up from his current post as Daily Mail sales controller. A replacement for Teal will be announced in the new year.

Ironside said: "I think this is a fresh look at the business. We go into the new year with a new approach, with vigour and gusto. We are doing well in the market and we know that, but for that to be sustained we have to continually examine how we operate."

Also moving is Simon Barnes, who moves from his position of ad director on the Mail on Sunday to take up the new position of managing director of Contract Mail, Associated Newspapers' contract publishing company, which was launched earlier this year.

His role as ad director on the Mail on Sunday will be taken over by advertisement sales controller, Sally de la Bedoyere.
