
The supermarket chain, which is owned by Wal-Mart, saw like-for-like sales grow 8.4% in its first quarter trading statement (excluding petrol, the timing of Easter and the impact of leap day in 2008).
Asda said it had seen increased consumer uptake of the trend to ‘cooking from scratch' and saw a rise in sales of herbs, spices and baking products. The supermarket giant said that the meal ideas will include dishes like turkey stir-fry and salmon pie and will be released later this month. This is a result of consumers looking for inspiration for cooking affordable family meals.
The recipes follows in the footsteps of Sainsbury's which launched the ‘feed a family for a fiver' campaign last year, where consumers have to prepare and cook the meals themselves.
