French Connection has attacked Asda for promoting its sale of
fcuk-branded goods in the latest 'grey market' controversy to hit the
UK.
The supermarket chain has imported a range of fcuk sunglasses, which it
is selling at a discount of 32% in 35 Asda Vision Centres around the
country.
It is part of Asda's biggest-ever grey market push and follows last
week's European Court of Justice ruling that Tesco could not sell
designer goods imported from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) in
the UK.
French Connection is unhappy, however, that Asda is promoting the sale
of fcuk products and has severed ties with the third party from which
Asda sourced the goods, within the EEA.
"We are not happy that Asda is selling fcuk merchandise or that they are
discussing the fact that they are doing so," said a French Connection
spokeswoman. "The stock they have got hold of is from our summer 1999
range, which was sold to a third party in good faith."
Asda is also selling products made by brand manufacturers including
Nike, Adidas, Reebok, DKNY, Calvin Klein, Dom Perignon and Dolce &
Gabbana.
