Asda dumped Rooney following his poor World Cup performance and after being sent off for stamping on Portuguese player Ricardo Carvalho in the quarter final.
However, McLoughlin is still in demand and will continue to front the George at Asda clothing range over the next year in a deal worth 拢1.3m.
According to reports, the decision to dump Rooney was taken by Asda's US owner Wal-Mart, which took a dim view of how much it was costing, England's performance in the World Cup, and Rooney's minimal contribution to the team.
When he was sent off for the stamping incident in the quarter-final against Portugal, it was the final straw for Asda.
"Coleen on the other hand is someone women identify with. She was in the papers every day looking tanned and gorgeous. Asda wasn't going to let her go," a source told the Sunday Mirror.
Rooney and McLoughlin were chosen to be the new faces of Asda in March in an attempt to front the struggling retailer's advertising for the next two-and-a-half years.
Rooney did not appear in any advertising during the World Cup because, with his metatarsal injury, it was uncertain if he would play. In the end, Asda's advertising featured Michael Owen, who went onto become injured, forcing him to return home in the early stages of the World Cup.
McLoughlin started back to work for Asda to model the new autumn/winter collection for George as soon as she returned from Germany after the World Cup.
This is not the first bit of bad news for Rooney this week. Burglars broke into his parents' home over the weekend and stole valuable football memorabilia belonging to the England and Manchester United player.
