Comedian Milton Jones nominated the archbishop for the title, after Welby declared war on payday loans company Wonga by threatening to put it out of business with church support for financial co-operatives.
His title may perhaps be a little tainted now it has been revealed the church indirectly invests in Wonga through its pension scheme.
Welby also edged out an unlikely rival for the title – the female 19th century novelist Jane Austen.
'Top Gear' presenter James May put Austen forward as his "anti-man of the week". Austen's face will appear on bank notes in the next few years, but May felt she had done "more than anyone" in history to make the female psyche inaccessible to men through her novels.
The radio show aims to offer a "foolproof guide to being a modern man" and is funded by Just For Men (suggesting that a modern man should certainly have lustrous hair).
Third panellist Jenny Éclair suggested this chap below for the 'Man of the Week' honour – Steve Cullum, who experienced a rather awkward flight when a women fell asleep on his lap.
