Aquafresh to use clear packing in premium launch

LONDON - Pharmaceutical and healthcare business GlaxoSmithKline is launching premium toothpaste Aquafresh Extreme Clean this week, with a packaging concept created by design consultancy Boxer.

GSK, owner of brands ranging from Ribena to Horlicks, will launch the variant in 15 European markets, including the UK.

Aquafresh Extreme Clean aims to inject life into the oral hygiene market through innovative packaging and a formula that transforms the toothpaste into a foaming mouthwash while in the user's mouth.

The packaging consists of a clear plastic casing instead of the traditional Aquafresh box, and aims to reflect the "clean" nature of the product.

GSK's oral care portfolio includes the Sensodyne and Macleans brands, which it is also understood to be planning to revamp in the near future.
