Hatch, formerly joint managing director, has been confirmed as sole managing director following the departure of Toby Jenner to Mediacom Australia earlier this year.
MEC hired Carat commercial director Altman to fulfil the role of deputy managing director.
Hatch has been with MEC since its inception and rose to head of strategy, before his promotion to joint managing director in 2006. Altman has spent a total of 14 years at Carat during two stints there, and has previously worked at GroupM agencies, Mindshare and Mediacom.
Mediaedge:cia chief executive Tom George said the new appointments were "a reflection" of the doubling in size of the business over the past three years.
George added: "Steve has done a fantastic job since Toby left and has been instrumental in our success - so that made the decision very easy. In Alex, we have a very talented individual with a wide range of business development, commercial, planning, client service and B2B experience. I'm delighted that he's chosen to join us."
