Apple has been named Cannes Lions' Creative Marketer of the Year 2019.

The brand will pick up the award at the upcoming festival during the final awards show on 21 June.

Simon Cook, managing director of Cannes Lions, explained that Apple "has created a culture that drives marketing strategies that ensure that its customers are true ambassadors for Apple brands".

Apple has created several Cannes Lions award-winning ads, including "World gallery", part of the "Shot on iPhone" campaign that won five gold Lions and a Grand Prix in 2015; "Dance", from the "Silhouette" campaign for iPod in 2004; and "1984", which won a Grand Prix in 1984.

Tor Myhren, Apple’s vice-president of marketing communications, said: "We are humbled to receive this prestigious award. Apple has always believed creative, passionate people can change the world for the better. We make tools for those people and we make marketing for those people."

Google won the accolade in 2018 and was described as having "crafted a reputation for marketing campaigns that are bold, courageous and creative".

Past winners include Burger King, Samsung, Heineken, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Mars, Ikea and Unilever.
