Guests will be invited to learn the basics of coding and computer science at the workshops, which will be hosted at Apple’s 38 stores in the UK. The experiences will also be held at stores around the globe.
Apple will also be hosting a one-off talk with software brand NaturalMotion’s chief executive Torsten Reil at its Regent Street store tomorrow (9 December). Other brands supporting the event include Microsoft, Amazon, and Disney, which has created an Hour of Code tutorial featuring Anna and Elsa from its animated Frozen film.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services, said: "We are proud to be part of making computer science accessible to students of all ages around the world. Education is part of Apple’s DNA and we believe this is a great way to inspire kids to discover technology."
Hadi Partovi, co-founder of Code.org, added: "We’re thrilled to have Apple on board again this year, encouraging students around the world to explore the wonders of building technology. The Hour of Code, we hope, will continue to spark a creative fire that students might otherwise never discover."
Hour of Code was devised by non-profit organisation Code.org to encourage girls and ethnic minorities to enter the coding world. The movement has been timed to coincide with Computer Science Education Week (8-14 December).
