LONDON - AOL has promoted Barry Flanigan to the newly created role of head of marketing for the UK, following the company's transition from an internet service provider to a web services company.

AOL promotes Flanigan to head of marketing
Flanigan, who was previously director of marketing planning at the company, will report to interim chief executive David Wolffe.

AOL has appointed Wolffe as caretaker CEO until it finds a replacement for Andy Jonesco, who joined BSkyB in a senior digital role last month.

Flanigan's remit includes overall marketing, B2B marketing, and managing agency and consultancy relationships. One area of focus this year will be the web company's sponsorship of entertainment venue The O2.

Flanigan has worked for AOL since 2003. He has previously held positions at Level 3 Communications and Ovum.
