Miles Lewis, former director of advertising sales at Esquire, has
joined AOL UK as its first head of agency sales.
The 32-year-old will report to director of sales Phil Kramer and will
run a team of five sales people.
Lewis will work across all of AOL's brands, including Compuserve,
Netscape and AOL.co.uk. Kramer said that Lewis has the remit of building
the sales team and raising the profile of the company within media
agencies.
"It is important that there is a central point of contact for the
agencies and that a dedicated person is in charge," said Kramer.
He added that AOL would be increasing the number of partners it works
with and that Lewis would soon be working with Mapquest.
AOL UK divides its sales department into three groups - agency sales,
client sales and business development. The client sales team works on a
category basis, identifying areas of the market to target. The agency
sales team works across a portfolio of agencies.
"We chose someone with a traditional media sales background because of
the understanding he has of how the medium is sold, and because these
skills are transferable," said Kramer.
Lewis left Natmags in April last year and has taken a break from the
business for the past 16 months.
Kramer was flown in to AOL UK in March from the shopping site
Productopia.co.uk to replace Carole Jordorson, who quit her post as head
of advertising at the firm.
