AOL has appointed a number two to its vice president of interactive marketing Andy Jonesco to help push the internet as a marketing medium to agencies and brands.
Greg Paine, previously the media director of McCann Erickson in Russia, joins the company as director of strategy for interactive marketing, and has been tasked with making online an indispensable part of every media strategy.
Jonesco said: ""Greg's extensive experience in planning and buying traditional media will prove an invaluable asset in putting online into context with other media. We've got as many subscribers as some of my ex-newspapers have circulation, so online should be at the heart of every media plan."
AOL is one of a number of online media owners who have upped their efforts this year to make web marketing a bigger area of investment for brands - both MSN and Lycos launched industry marketing initiatives last year targeting both agencies and clients direct.
The Interactive Advertising Bureau has also vowed to double the size of online ad revenue over the next two years.
