The 30-second spot, created by Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam, features fast-moving action to an upbeat track, 'Early Riser' by Plus-Tech Squeeze Box.
It shows five larger-than-life sporting characters, each with an animated head, using their sporting skills -- basketball, rugby, sprinting, football and skateboarding -- to compete for possession of a bottle of Powerade.
The ad finishes with the endline "Fuel your obsession", which is to be used across all of the brand's advertising.
The ad was written by Dave Bell and art directed by Jim Bucktin. The animation was by the Hong Kong artist Michael Lau, and the spot was partially animated by directors Ne-o (Jake Knight and Ryoko) through the production company Stink.
According to Bucktin: "The characters, designed by Hong Kong hip-hop street artist Michael Lau, enabled us to keep an element of cool. It also gave us the direction of blending live footage with CGI.
"The simple story of a passionate, competitive race also helped us keep the product -- an unmissable bright blue bottle of Powerade -- central throughout the spot, which is something most advertising seems to shy away from these days."
Powerade is owned by the Coca-Cola Company.
Media planning was by BBJ and media buying was through Universal-McCann.
