Andy Davis appointed editor of FT Weekend

LONDON - The Financial Times, published by Pearson, has appointed Andy Davis as editor of FT Weekend, succeeding Michael Skapinker who is stepping down to become a business columnist.

Davis first joined the FT in 1995, working in a range of editorial roles, including stints as deputy company news editor, deputy UK news editor, features editor and development editor.

He left the editorial section three years ago on a secondment to the commercial department, and moved to Delhi to work for the FT in India. He subsequently returned to the UK in September 2006 to become development editor.

Davis most recently directed the global refresh of the FT back in April, which relaunched with a new masthead, more colour pages, and more signposting and labelling to improve navigation throughout the paper.

The relaunch was supported by a multimillion-pound ad campaign with the slogan "We live in Financial Times". Promotional activity ran across a range of outdoor and digital channels, including poster sites, branded taxis, online advertising, point of sale activity and direct marketing, which was then followed by a global TV campaign.

Lionel Barber, editor of the Financial Times, said: "I am delighted that Andy has accepted this role and I would like to thank Mike for all his hard work over the past two years.

"Andy is one of our most experienced editors and was the natural choice to further develop FT Weekend as the essential read for our elite global audience."

Skapinker, who has edited the weekend edition of the Financial Times since 2005, will become a weekly business columnist, writer and editor, writing for the op-ed page focusing on the interaction between business and society.

He will also be responsible for conducting high-profile interviews with leading business figures.
