What is Amazon getting for LoveFilm's price tag?

LoveFilm is not only a DVD and games rental business and a film streaming company, it also offers its own editorial content, videos and events through its website. Media Week presents a few of the extras that new owner Amazon will be able to provide.

Online video content

LoveFilm started creating video content around the launch of new films - for example, website editor Helen Cowley interviewed actor Jesse Eisenberg after he starred in 'The Social Network'.

Other content includes reworked film trailers to spark customer interest in historical releases and video features showing London film locations.

Commercial events

LoveFilm is a partner for the See Film Differently campaign set up by Volkswagen. As part of the campaign, films are being screened where they were filmed. The events kicked off with cult classic 'An American Werewolf in London' at the wolf's resting place, London Zoo, on Halloween night.

Editorial content

The site offers reviews, features and round-ups to inspire different film choices, as well as a digital magazine that includes ads for related products such as TVs and Blu-ray players.

Social networking

The brand has built up a presence across social networking sites. It also promotes a Twitter Directory of the official accounts of film stars, which customers can add to their personal Twitter account.
