Allied Domecq strengthens drinks portfolio

LONDON - Allied Domecq has added to its drink brands portfolio with the acquisition of Kuemmerling, the fourth most-popular spirit in Germany.

The company paid £128m for the Kuemmerling group, which also gives its name to an after-dinner liqueur. It is the second acquisition by Allied Domecq in the space of a week -- last week, it bought New Zealand's largest winemaker Montana at a cost of £300m.

Kuemmerling joins Allied Domecq's other brands, including Beefeater Gin, Tia Maria and Ballantine's.
