According to a spokesman for TomTom's European head office in Amsterdam, Batchelor's departure was by mutual decision.

Although Batchelor main home and family was based in the UK, he was working in Amsterdam four days a week, the spokesman said.

TomTom is speaking to a number of different candidates to replace Batchelor as head of marketing.

Prior to joining TomTom, Batchelor was marketing director at Royal Mail from 2005. He has also held senior marketing positions at Orange and Unilever.

In March Batchelor was elected chairman of the management board of the Marketing Society.
