The pitch which was run by Isba and concluded at the end of last week. McCann beat Saatchi & Saatchi, Mother, Havas Worldwide London, and J Walter Thompson London to win the pitch.

McCann Manchester had held Aldi's creative account since 2005, when the business moved from MCS. But following the pitch, the business will be spread across McCann UK. Mark Lund, McCann's UK chief executive, ran the pitch with teams from McCann London, Manchester and Dublin.

A spokesman for Aldi said in a statement: "Following a comprehensive pitch process Aldi has appointed McCann UK as its lead creative agency."

McCann Manchester found success with its humorous TV ads for Aldi comparing the supermarket’s own products with more expensive brands, and regularly featuring the line "I like this one, but I also like this one".

More recently McCann has spoofed other brands’ ads in its advertising, including a spot referencing John Lewis’ "man on the moon" and Cadbury Dairy Milk’s "gorilla".
