Eleven of the existing 160 marketing positions have been made redundant, and the company is hoping this can be achieved through voluntary redundancies and redeployment of staff to other areas of the group.

Meanwhile, Aegon has created four new roles to report into marketing director Marchant. Two will focus on Aegon's key consumer groups, while head of individual marketing and head of corporate marketing will develop customer and intermediary propositions.

Two further senior management positions have been created to focus on e-commerce and planning.
