It is estimated the five-week festival will cost just under €2m (£1,767,700) to produce, and will be staged in partnership with local firm Synergy Events in parklands at Dublin’s Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
Drinks brand 7UP has already signed up as headline sponsor and will be investing €300,000 (£265,000) in a ‘7UP Christmas on Ice’ skating rink and marketing the attraction.
Like the London event, it will be free to attend and will feature a range of winter attractions from traditional Christmas markets to fairground rides.
It will create short-term employment for up to 350 locals, and is expected to attract around 500,000 visitors from across Ireland between from 1 December 2011 to 9 January 2012.
"The event will support Dublin’s festive economy, draw visitors and tourists, and deliver a truly spectacular festive experience in Dublin, with attractions never before seen in this country," said Syndergy MD Avril Bannerton.
The Hyde Park event has been welcoming in excess of six million visitors since its launch in 2007, and was awarded ‘Event of the Year’ at the Visit London Awards 2010.
