Publicis Groupe's proposed deal to acquire data company Epsilon for £3.37bn is not quite as big as the almost £5bn WPP paid for Y&R in 2000, or Dentsu's move in 2012 to buy Aegis for just under £4bn.

The Aegis deal, which led to the creation of Dentsu Aegis Network, was meant to create a global marketing services giant for the Japanese company to better compete against WPP and Omnicom.
