Ad revenues rise at Wireless Group

LONDON - The Wireless Group, Kelvin MacKenzie's radio station operator, has defied industry trends and reported a small increase in advertising revenues.

Ad sales at the group were up by 3.7% on like-for-like figures, compared with an industry-wide fall in reported advertising revenues of 5.7%.

The group recorded a profit of £5m, aided by the £22.5m sale of Scot FM to the Guardian Media Group in June. Last year, it reported a loss of £25.7m.

MacKenzie, chairman and CEO, said, "Despite the difficult conditions being experienced in the market place, our stations are continuing to show improvement in terms of advertising revenue."

TWG, which owns TalkSport, recorded turnover of £15.4m for the half year ending 30 June 2001. This figure is up 11.6% on the previous figure.

TWG said it plans to continue investing in digital radio. It invested £900,000 in this area in the six-month period of the report.
