Ad funding of mobile services will increase consumption

LONDON - Using ad-funded mobile services can significantly increase levels of mobile content consumption and create new revenue streams, according to a report by technology firm Amobee Media Systems.

According to live trial results, for every person who paid to download mobile content, up to 50 accepted the ad-funded version.

The report, which was created through Amobee's mobile media system package, also claims that ad revenue can be worth up to four times its equivalent download value.

Amobee said the report indicated there was a limit to how much consumers would realistically spend on new content services, stifling future growth levels.

Zohar Levkovitz, chief executive officer at Amobee Media Systems, said: "Mobile is the last remaining medium in which the user bears the full weight of payment -- a situation that will ultimately stifle growth.

"Ad-funding the mobile has the potential to create new revenue streams for operators and content providers, and to deliver an innovative, targeted and measurable advertising channel for brands."

Amobee said it could insert ads for mobile game developers, when users pause their game, through its handset application programming interface.
