Acxiom moves into Saudi Arabia as a gateway to Middle East

LONDON - Database giant Acxiom is venturing into Saudi Arabia and the Middle East by agreeing to buy DMS (Direct Marketing Services) in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

DMS managing director Yousef Hamidaddin will head the business as CEO of a new unit called Acxiom MENA (Middle East and North Africa), the company said. With the acquisition, Acxiom gains offices in Jeddah and Dubai.

"The MENA region is a strategic investment area for our company," Acxiom CEO John Meyer said.

"We look forward to servicing our current global partners who are expanding, as well as serving regional marketers who need a broad, integrated solution set to answer the complex challenges facing businesses today."

Hamidaddin is founder and CEO of the Arab Direct Marketing Association.

Working in partnership with the Saudi Post, DMS has been a pioneer in the development of the Middle East's direct mail industry and has expanded its offerings to become a full-service direct marketing agency. DMS recently became a member of the Universal Postal Union Direct Mail Advisory Board.

Acxiom shares rose 7 cents on Nasdaq to $9.47 in afternoon trading.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
