The creation of the consumer panel services unit will allow ACNielsen to develop an overall consumer panel strategy, drive products and achieve efficient operational facilities across its global panels.
Tomei will take on the role of president of the CPS unit. He was most recently general manager of ACNielsen's US Homescan panel and led the company's MegaPanel expansion.
Previously, Tomei was chief marketing officer for the VNU marketing information group and ACNielsen Global. He joined ACNielsen in 1994 as vice-president of Homescan marketing for the US and global.
The formation of the CPS unit comes at a time when AC Nielsen is rapidly expanding its global panel.
In the US, ACNielsen is in the middle of a two-year MegaPanel initiative that will expand its Homescan panel from 61,000 to 125,000 households by the end of this year.
In Europe, ACNielsen is expanding its European Consumer Panels business by 70% over the next two years, taking company's total European panel coverage from approximately 45,000 to just under 70,000 households by the end of 2006.
Steven Schmidt, president and CEO of ACNielsen, said: "To fully leverage our unmatched panel capibilities, create a new generation of advanced services and deliver the high value consumer insights our clients neeed to run their businesses, we believe it's absolutely imperative that we manage this business as a cohesive global unit."
