Acclaim debuts soccer video game on Vodafone Live!

Acclaim Entertainment is releasing the first video game to be available on a mobile phone before its retail debut, with the launch of Urban Freestyle Soccer exclusively on Vodafone Live!

Urban Freestyle Soccer is available on Vodafone Live! from today (Thursday), but will not be available on the major consoles PlayStation 2, Xbox and Nintendo GameCube until October 4.

Vodafone is to run a TV ad featuring the campaign on MTV next month.

The mobile network will also promote it extensively in its 'Mobile Games Championships' summer roadshow, which goes on tour in the UK this week until the end of September.

The arcade-style game aims to take football back to its street roots with gang-style teams competing against their rivals for the right to be crowned 'King of the Streets'.

The games publisher has also struck a product placement deal with Adidas to dress the game's characters in kit with the manufacturer's branding in the game and on-pack.

Acclaim hired Larry Sparks, the man who launched Lara Croft, as vice-president of international marketing from Infogrames - now known as Atari - earlier this year (Marketing, April 17).
