ABTA hires new head of communications

ABTA, the travel association, has named Victoria Bacon as its new head of communications.

Bacon replaces Casia Zajac, who held the position from 2008. Zajac is currently interim head of press and homepage at the British Council.

Bacon, who takes on the role from January, will report to ABTA chief executive Mark Tanzer. Her appointment completes the senior management restructure Tanzer has carried out at the association.

Bacon will leave her current position as head of communications at publisher Future. She has previously worked in senior communications roles for BP and Kimberly-Clark.

As part of the role, Bacon will be involved in the development of consumer-facing campaigns, such as the ad campaign launched in May in the wake of the volcanic ash crisis, .

Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ABTA, said: "ABTA is committed to a bold reform agenda and effective communications are essential to explain both to our members and the general public, what we are doing to shape the industry's future and also to influence key decision makers in Westminster and in Brussels.

"In Victoria I believe we have found the ideal candidate to ensure our messages are heard and fully understood."
