Absolute's Giles Darby joins Global Radio

Global Radio, owner of Heart FM and Classic FM, has appointed Giles Darby, Absolute Radio's ad director, to lead a business hub responsible for driving revenue across the Global portfolio.

Darby will represent all the Global Radio brands and will be responsible for driving revenue through sponsorships, promotions, digital media, events and CRM.

In his new role Darby will lead a team of around 20 people and will be based at Leicester Square. He will report to Ed Chalmers, sales director.

Chalmers said: "Giles is joining a very strong team at such an exciting time in the company's history. With 15 years experience behind him I'm confident that he will make an immediate impact."

Darby has been at Absolute Radio since April 2008 when he joined Virgin Radio as sales controller. Virgin Radio was bought by Times of India Group and was renamed Absolute Radio in September 2008. Darby became advertising director in June 2009.

Prior to joining Absolute Darby was group account director at CBS Outdoor from March 2005 to March 2007. He also worked at Emap Advertising, now Bauer Advertising, from November 1997 to January 2004, rising from account manager to group head.

Darby said: "The opportunity to join Global Radio and play a part in dynamically changing the radio market with the ambition and pace that they have demonstrated is one that I simply couldn't resist."
