Our appetite for food titles shows no signs of being sated, with the market up 7.8% period on period. The BBC strengthened its position as market leader with an 8.2% period-on-period rise at Good Food. BBC Easy Cook, which rocketed 60% year on year, reported the biggest circulation rise, while sister title Olive increased its circulation by 25.3% year on year.

Britain's baby boom is reaping rewards in the parenting sector, with year-on-year circulation up 38.7%. Bauer Consumer Media's Mother and Baby was the highest circulation paid-for title, despite sales falling 9% year on year. Prima Baby enjoyed the biggest rise in the market, posting an ABC of 50,496.

England failing to qualify for Euro 2008 has not dented sales of Media Week owner Haymarket's FourFourTwo, which reported a record circulation of 114,215, up 10.2% period on period. Competition in the football market will hot up in 2008 when the BBC launches its Match of the Day title and IPC's Shoot goes weekly.

Price-dropping and demand for the next generation of games consoles continued the boom in the multi-format console sector, which reported a 35% increase period on period. The battle between Nintendo and Sony played out on the news-stand. Sony PlayStation titles were up by 187% period on period, while Nintendo titles also enjoyed a sharp increase, up 58% period on period.

The Big Issue recorded its largest circulation increase in 12 years. Sales of the magazine rose nationally by 21% over the second half of 2007, to 174,770. Sales of the Scottish edition enjoyed the biggest surge, up 30%, with the London and South East edition close behind, recording a 27% increase.

Redan reported a healthy debut for its primary school girls' title Sparkle World. The magazine's circulation for July to December 2007 was 63,815, which took the title to fourth place in the primary girls' market, ahead of Egmont's Go Girl and Barbie and BBC Worldwide's Disney Witch.

IPC's Look magazine, the first high-street fashion and celebrity weekly, delivered an ABC of 305,603, representing a 4.2% dip from its debut ABC in August. The latest ABC figure consolidates Look's position as the number one UK news-stand fashion magazine by volume.
