With a £3.99 cover price, the new Jamie Magazine from chef Jamie Oliver has had a strong debut, with ABC reporting 75,369 copies. The title came in ahead of BBC Easy Cook and less than 9,000 copies behind BBC Olive, which shifted 86,117 copies. The major supermarket titles dominated the sector, although the top five titles were free customer magazines.
Parenthood titles are booming, with the sector up 11.6% overall period on period. Bauer Consumer Media did particularly well, with Mother and Baby up 17.1% period on period and Pregnancy & Birth up 16.4% period on period.
Slimming titles have fought back, with the sector rising 3.4% period on period. Miles-Bramwell's Slimming World retained its lead with 291,730 copies, while River Publishing's WeightWatchers Magazine put on 8.6% period on period to reach 208,438.
The travel magazine sector rose 29.9% year on year, despite the downturn. News International's Sunday Times Travel Magazine, which has an actively purchased figure of 56.6%, rose 22.4% period on period, while the BBC's Lonely Planet Magazine posted a debut ABC of 40,702.
Egmont increased circulation 10.2% period on period for children's title Disney Fairies Tinkerbell and 17.4% for Power Rangers. Its launch Ben 10 debuted with 70,012 copies, but World of Cars fell 15.6% period on period and Numberjacks dropped 21.7%.
Recessionary trends took hold at Dennis Publishing, as motoring titles Auto Express and Evo fell 6.6% and 11.8% period on period respectively, but current affairs title The Week was up 10.3% year on year to 165,609 copies.
At Future Publishing, only Classic Rock had anything to shout about, rising 0.2% period on period to 70,301. Metal Hammer fell 8.5% to 46,004 and Total Film dropped 1.1% period on period. Customer title Sky Movies Magazine fell 4.3% year on year, but remains above 3.5 million.
