
Managing director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Mark Scott, confirmed the news in a "ABC News 24 – to start broadcasting on Thursday 22nd July at 7.30pm. On TV, online and on mobile."
In a press statement the broadcaster said that ABC News 24 will deliver continuous and commercial-free coverage of major breaking stories in Australia and around the world.
It will take advantage of the ABC’s existing news operation, including more than 800 journalists in 60 locations in Australia and a dozen international bureaux.
ABC said that new programs are being developed specifically for the channel, focusing on world news, national politics and business.
In addition many of the ABC’s existing television news and current affairs programs will also be featured including 'Lateline', 'The 7.30 Report' and 'Four Corners'.
ABC has built a new studio to accomodate the channel in the foyer of the ABC’s Ultimo headquarters in Sydney.
that the channel will be available on Freeview, but not to all Foxtel subscribers, only those who subscribe to the Foxtel HD service because the broadcaster has placed ABC News 24 on what was its HD channel.
