The launch of H. Bauer's cut-price TV Choice 18 months ago continues to reverberate around the television sector, with most titles suffering losses in the period.
TV Choice itself fell back 6.7 per cent in the period. Its entry has boosted the sector's copy sales by more than 11 per cent during the past 12 months. However, IPC tx managing director Caroline Ward estimated that cover-price discounting led to a 6 per cent loss in revenue in the sector.
Boosted by its Christmas edition featuring Harry Potter on the cover, Radio Times was the only mainstream title to record an increase in the period - up 1.1 per cent.
Publisher Ashley Munday claimed Radio Times had delivered the highest profits in its 77 year history.
TV Times is waiting to see the results of its October relaunch, which positioned it nearer the Radio Times, with higher quality production values and more satellite listings pages.
Soaplife added 5.6 per cent at the expense of All About Soap, which lost 8.3 per cent.
TV & Satellite Week reported another good result - up 4.5 per cent in the period.
