ABC FIGURES BRIEF: BBC Good Food records highest ABC for 11 periods
BBC Good Food, up 6.1%, recorded its highest ABC for 11 periods and its fifth consecutive increase. The result was boosted by bumper sales of its Christmas issue, which, combined with a vegetarian Christmas special, exceeded 550,000. More themed specials, such as last year's Italian cuisine one-shot, are planned for the coming year. Publishing director Marcus Arthur said BBC Good Food hadn't reached its peak and that new readers would be sought from among less-experienced, occasional cooks. BBC Good Food features many TV chefs, but Arthur said BBC Good Food's success came despite a cutback in food-related TV programming over the past year. Sales of Sainsbury's: The Magazine, the other wholly paid for title in the food sector, were down 6% on last year, but rose 18% in the period.
