Aardman T-Birds return for new PG Tips teabag launch

LONDON - PG Tips' claymation birds return to UK screens with a TV-show-within-a-TV-ad, to show how the new pyramid teabag helps let out more flavour.

Created by BMP DDB, the 40-second animated advertisement shows the T-Birds, created by Aardman Animations, going about their housework to the tune of All Seeing Eye's 'The Beat Goes On'.

While they do their work, the television is on in the living room and a newsflash appears with a bird presenter on screen demonstrating the new free-flow material that allows PG Tips flavour to flow from the pyramid-shaped teabag.

All of the T-Birds are given a cup of tea, and the birds begin dancing to the music, while one, Maggie, sings along with the song to the line "history has turned a page". The ad ends with a voiceover saying "New free-flow bag, because we all need a PG moment".

The ad was written and art directed by John Webster, and directed by Dave Osmand. Media for the campaign is by Initiative Media and the full-length ad breaks on June 2 with a cutdown version appearing later in the year.

The T-Birds replaced PG Tips long-running chimpanzee campaign. However, the British advertising industry has refused to let the simian creatures disappear from screens -- retailer Halfords is under fire for its latest campaign, which features chimpanzees dressed and acting like humans.
