Alliance & Leicester has linked up with travel promotions company
Landround in a push to increase the number of new customers opening
savings accounts.
Customers who open an EasySaver account with £50 or more, before
the end of September, will receive a voucher entitling them to free
travel to France or Ireland for up to five people.
The push is supported by a nationwide press campaign with adverts placed
in Sunday newspapers. Customers must bring the advert with them when
they open an account to receive a voucher.
"We haven't promoted the offer in branches as the focus is on driving
new customer numbers rather than rewarding existing ones. However, that
does not mean that existing customers are excluded from the deal," said
Alliance & Leicester product manager, savings and investment Rachel
Sibson.
The win comes after Landround was forced to release a trading statement
last month which announced that the company would not make profits in
the second half of the financial year because of its investment in Buy
and Fly. As a result the share price fell from its May peak of 397.5p to
173p at close of trade on August 10.
"Profibility will recover as Buy and Fly sales gain ground, and is back
on track for next year," stated Landround chief executive Michael
Crompton.
