Edinburgh has been dealt a further blow to its event reputation after a 拢250m hotel planned for the outskirts of the city was rejected in its final planning stages.

Plans for a leaf-shaped Intercontinental Hotel and complex were rejected by the Scottish Government over fears that views of the city would be obstructed.

Earlier this year

It was understood feedback from last year's Visit Scotland Expo raised a number of ‘issues' with the facilities at the Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston - the only venue large enough to host the two-day exhibition in the capital.

The £250m Intercontinental build would have been a 17-storey hotel with shops and office space next to the Haymarket railway station.
