Me & My Mentor

Joshua Morris, commercial director, Virgin Games

I was a graduate at the height of the dotcom bubble in 1999, when I met Chris Moore. He was marketing director of the online recruitment start-up StepStone. As you progress in your career, you need someone to give you room to grow and try new things. Chris, who has since become a marketing consultant, was forever pushing me and opening doors to new opportunities.
He taught me that, in an internet start-up, there is no wrong direction when it comes to marketing. There is trial and there will inevitably be error, but as long as you can show growth and adapt your approach, you’re off to the races.
Fortunately, the lessons Chris taught me have lasted longer than the dotcom bubble. Two start-up companies later, I still find the ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances is a key to success.
